The Membership Selection Process...
When a young woman accepts a bid for membership in Alpha Chi Omega, she is welcomed and accepted as she is, and she will never be expected to fit a specific mold. Potential new members are selected for membership in Alpha Chi after meeting our five national standards of membership. The sisters of Alpha Chi, Iota Phi Chapter included, all exemplify to the best of our ability the personal qualities of character, leadership, academic interest, personal development and financial responsibility.
After receiving a bid from Alpha Chi, new members participate in an education program meant to help them make a smooth transition to college life and a lifetime membership in Alpha Chi Omega. This includes education on the history of Alpha Chi Omega nationally and at xxx University, as well as sisterhood events and socials.
New members receive a "guardian" on Bid Day who helps welcomes them to sisterhood! This sister is one of four buddies a new member will receive. Bid Day starts the beginning of the Alpha, Chi, and Omega weeks, with buddies for each week. These buddies are typically sisters who will be looking to take a new member as their little sister in the chapter. This allows sisters an opportunity to get to know the new members and the new members an opportunity to get to know the sisters!
Soon after Omega Week, new members and chapter members taking a little sister are matched through a mutually selective process. We then have a Big Sis/ Lil Sis Revealing Week, where new members get clues about who their new Big Sis may be. Revealing Night is very special and everyone enjoys it.
The Vice President Education and the Assistant Vice President Education oversee all new member education. These women are dedicated to showing our new members just how much Alpha Chi means to each of its sisters.
